Choose the Best Format for Your Android Developer ResumeRecruiters are a bit like robots. They only spend about 6 seconds scanning your resume to decide if it's a go or no-go.You must be adroit enough to rivet their attention right away. Here's how you do it:Make the best heading for your resumeits where you put your resume contact information.Divide your resume into appropriate resume sections.Choose the best format for your resume. Your best bet is the chronological resume layout as it focuses on your most recent achievements and experience. The fonts for your resume matter. Fo cus on readability rather than embellishments.Present the relevant information and use white space to your advantage.Save your resume as a PDF file. Dont go for the MS Word file format unless the job ad asks you for it.2. Write an Android Developer Resume Objective or SummaryStart your resume with a profile description.Whats that?A brief paragraph that introduces you to the recruiter. It functions as a short elevator pitch and focuses on your professional highlights. There are two options for you to choose:A summary for a resume is great for a senior Android developer resume with 2+ years in the workforce. A summary stresses your experience and achievements.A career objective statement is suitable for your entry-level Android developer resume. It emphasizes your transferable skillsthat prove youre a great fit.Regardless of the type of your resume opening, its a good idea to put some numbers there to show your real impact.Pro Tip: Even though this section starts your resume, youre fre e to write it last. Once your entire Android developer resume is ready, it will be much easier to pick out the highlights.3. Create the Perfect Android Developer Job Description for a ResumeIts no secret:Its your resume experience section thats the make-it or break-it factor. It only needs to show one thingYoull crush it as an Android developer. The best way to show it to the hiring manager is by tailoring your resume to the job offer:List your latest position up top.Put your job title, dates worked, company name and locations in each entry.Use bullet points rather than full-length paragraphs. 6-7 bullets per job is enough.Make sure each bullet contains the right resume words, such as created, reviewed, developed, boosted, etc.Focus on your relevant experience and try to put numbers everywhere you can.Pro Tip: If you find it problematic to put a number everywhere, pick out up to 3 bullets you can quantify, and put them in a key achievements subsection.4. Make Your Android Developer Re sume Education Section GreatA great resume is great through and through. So dont neglect your education on a resume. If you have 5+ years of professional experience, you can only list the school name, degree, and graduation year.If you have less than 5 years of experience, youll benefit from including info on your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, GPA (if more than 3.5), and relevant coursework.Your certifications and licences can go straight to a dedicated section so theyre more visible.5. Failing Well
Failing Well I have not failed. Ive just found 10,000 ways that wont work. Thomas A. Edison Itâs the other F word: failure. We know intellectually that we learn more from our mistakes than from our successes, but each failure still feels like a kick in the gut. When we fail, we tend to be ashamed. We hide our failures, from ourselves and our bosses, and we donât talk about them after. We try not to even think about them. But they creep back into our consciousness, usually between 2:00 and 3:00 in the morning (or so Iâve heard.) Failure brings back all our unpleasant memories and feelings from childhood; we feel terrible about getting it wrong and disappointing authority figures we care about. Learning to talk productively about failure can make our work relationships stronger, according to Bradley Staats, an associate professor at the University of North Carolinaâs Kenan Flagler Business School, author of âNever Stop Learning: Stay Relevant, Reinvent Yourself and Thrive.â Staats suggests that learning how to talk about failures can help you connect with colleagues and even improve your image. When we project an image of invincibility, we push people away. When we admit to our mistakes, we show vulnerability, which helps people connect to us â" they may even like us better for it. If we can get to the point of seeing the benefit (or the humor) in a failure, we show people our strength of character (and may also inspire them to talk about their own failures.) Something that may help you cope better is realizing that not all failures are alike. In fact, they come in three flavors. Unavoidable failures happen because of something outside our control, something no one could have seen coming. Your big event gets washed out by a tropical storm. Your vendor or customer suddenly goes out of business. Thereâs almost no way to prepare for the unpredictable, but you can insure you have backup plans in place and a resilient business model so one big loss isnât catastrophic. Preventable failures are the ones we feel worst about. Preventable failures come from something we didnât do well enough. We skimp on resources; we donât think the plan through thoroughly; we underestimate time, talent, or other factors needed for success. In hindsight, we can see where we went wrong, and hopefully, learn from our mistakes. Intelligent failures may sound like a contradiction in terms, but theyâre actually the best kind of failure. Smart companies try to fail fast and fail smart as they test new ideas or products. Itâs the concept behind a trial period or a test market; find out whether the idea has potential before you invest more resources. If it fails, learn what you can, tweak the plan and move on. Intelligent failures are contained and controlled; theyâre designed as a learning process. âIt didnât work, but we know more nowâ is a great outcome. There are really only two bad outcomes from any kind of failure. One is that you start feeling like youâre a failure. Thereâs a world of difference between failing and being a failure. The measure of a person is not how many times she falls down, but how many times she gets up. The second bad outcome is letting a failure stop you from trying again. Giving up is the only sure way to guarantee you wont succeed; anything else gives you a fighting chance. If you quit, youll never know how close you were to success. Robert Kiyosaki said: âWinners are not afraid of losing. But losers are. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success.â Get out there and make some mistakes. Do something. Learn something. Lather, rinse, repeat.

How to Stop Money From Consuming You
How to Stop Money From Consuming You In their song âAwake My Soul,â folk band Mumford and Sons sang the memorable lyrics, âWhere you invest your love, you invest your life.â Thatâs a powerful statement that reminds us about being cognizant of our priorities in life. Unfortunately, many of us find we have a love of money, without even realizing it. Thatâs not always a bad thing. Although money canât buy happiness, having money does tend to make it a lot easier to have a fulfilling lifestyle, which could, in turn, cause more contentment. On the other hand, many people get so caught up in the desire to earn as much money as possible they spend their waking hours working as hard as possible, often to the point of burnout. Money isnât everything, and you can put the tips below into practice if it seems money has too much importance in your life. Understand How Much Money You Truly Need From housing costs to groceries, there are dozens of things people buy every day that comprise the basic necessities of a stable life. Surprisingly, some individuals donât know how much they truly spend on such expenses every day, week or month. You can become more knowledgeable about that in your own life by using a spending tracker. Many are free and are compatible with common gadgets, like iPhones. If youâd prefer a low-tech way to track your spending, consider options such as: A notebook that includes pockets for receipts A journal A calculator with memory functions A notepad with one page devoted to each day you spend money Once youâre aware of the total cost of your usual expenses, you may find youâre actually earning much more money than necessary. Although itâs smart to put money into savings, you donât want to work so hard youâre too tired to fully enjoy the money you earn. Focus on Things That Bring You Joy Besides being aware of how much money you need to live, itâs also important to monitor your spending and make sure itâs maximally effective. For example, if youâre spending $20 per month on premium cable channels you never watch, youâre putting money toward something that doesnât add joy to your life. Consider canceling your subscription to those premium channels and using the cash for a dinner out with a close friend, instead. In that situation, youâre spending the same amount of money, but youâre using your financial resources toward something truly meaningful. This is just one way to fix uncontrolled spending â" a common thing that makes people stress about money. Have a Healthy Perspective About Money Sometimes, money has such a hold on us that weâll sacrifice other good things in life just because we want more cash so badly. Dave Allen, an Irish comedian, humorously illustrated that concept in a sketch where a person became fixated on money caught under a carâs tire. Even though it wasnât an extraordinarily valuable monetary note, the man allowed the money to dominate his thoughts, especially when he went in a café to get tea. While sipping his beverage, he kept obsessively glancing out the window at the car, intending to immediately dash outside to retrieve the money once the vehicle moved. As it turns out, almost everyone in the establishment had the same idea. The character in the sketch was obsessive about getting to the money, and he stopped caring about anything else while waiting for the car to move. People frequently fall into the same thought pattern, especially when they believe money is the only thing that constitutes wealth. Work hard to change your perspective by realizing there are other types of wealth in life, and they donât all involve earning a lot of money. Consider the following scenarios: Having a job that doesnât offer a high salary, but allows you to make a positive impact in the world Maintaining a healthy balance between work and home life so you rarely feel too stressed Getting an opportunity to broaden your perspective through volunteerism Being in the company of people who truly care about you and do what they can to make you feel uplifted and supported Those are several examples of ways you can be wealthy without having much money in your bank account. If you consistently feel consumed by cash, reshape your perspective and remember youâre probably wealthier than most people in numerous ways. Get Educated About Personal Finance Matters Some people have unrealistic perceptions of how money works in todayâs society, and they feel their only option is to work as hard as they can until the end of their lives. If that sounds familiar, see if your community offers personal finance classes or counseling you could take advantage of and get more informed. While there, youâll learn about setting up savings accounts, investing and doing other long-term things that help you reach your goal of a stable income. Far too often, people merely conform to societal expectations because they donât know any better. If youâre around people who typically work over 40 hours per week, youâll see that behavior as normal. However, after learning about good financial practices, youâll likely find thereâs no need to run yourself ragged trying to earn a living, and you can actually cut back on work without making great sacrifices. Remember, everyone has the same amount of hours in the day at their disposal. The difference is how each person spends them. Although it may seem tempting to spend most of yours motivated by money, itâs important to act based on the insight above and realize there are much more worthwhile ways to fill your days. MOJO
MOJO MOJO: Probably African in origin. Definition: A magic charm or spell. An amulet, often a small flannel bag containing one or more magic items, worn by adherents of hoodoo or voodoo. Personal magnetism; charm. Marshall Goldsmith, is the author of MOJO: How to Get It, How to Keep It, and How to Get It Back If You Lose It. He might not have been thinking about careers, but MOJO is a necessary component of your job search as well. Here is Marshalls take on the four essential components of MOJO. Identity: If MOJO is that positive spirit toward what you are doing that starts from the inside and radiates to the outside, identity is the definition of you. The way that we define ourselves â" as human beings â" can either enhance or destroy our MOJO. Achievement: In MOJO we add a new twist to the concept of achievement. We look at achievement as not only what you bring to any activity (motivation, knowledge, ability, confidence and authenticity), we also look at what the activity brings to you (happiness, rewards, meaning, learning and gratitude). Both elements of achievement are needed for great MOJO. Reputation: Our reputation is determined by how the rest of the world defines us. If we are engaged in activities that involve influencing other people (and most of us, for most of the time, are), then our reputation will impact our MOJO. Reputation is much harder to change than behavior and reputational change can only be achieved over time. Acceptance: A key to maintaining MOJO is learning to change what you can change and to accept what you cannot change. For example, Peter Drucker taught me to accept the fact that every decision is made by the person who has the power to make that decision (not the ârightâ person or the âfairâ person). Few people deeply internalize this simple point. Once we accept that decision makers are our customers and learn to influence them in the most positive possible way we increase both our personal happiness and our organizational meaning. Do you have MOJO? If not, how can you get your MOJO back? More on these topics later.

How to Allocate Your Time Wisely
How to Allocate Your Time Wisely We cant manage time, but we can manage how we use our time. Here is how to allocate your time wisely during your job search and beyond. I dont know about you, but there just arent enough hours in the day to do everything I want to and should do! Time is a precious commodity and you and I both squander it. Lets get serious about taking control of how we spend our time! If you are saying, Nope, not me, Ive got a system in place then I envy you! But most of us do struggle with how to allocate our time wisely. Im not a slacker, nor are you. Theres the overflowing laundry basket of clean clothes sitting on the floor in my bedroom that has been gnawing at me for two days. Then there is the sink filled with dishes and a clean dishwasher that needs to be unloaded. And lets not forget the emails I have to respond to, the projects for work that are half completed and a host of other to dos that I carry in my mind and written down on scraps of paper somewhere! Does any of this sound familiar? Procrastination This is me! I am the queen of procrastination. I wait until the last minute to do everything. It wouldnt be so bad if I didnt worry about the deadlines, but I do and that causes stress. But I have a secret I have been using. Do you want to hear it? First, I want to thank all the folks who help me with this, whether they know it or not! I partner up with people who are doers. I purposely seek out and hang with people who do not procrastinate. After I have confessed my problem with procrastination to them, I enlist their help in holding me accountable. I share my due dates with them and know that once Ive done that, I cant let them down. Who is holding you accountable for doing the things you need to do? There is no excuse why you cant find an accountability partner. Zero. If you procrastinate, go find one today! Over Commit I sign up for way too many things- events and volunteer projects that seem great at the time. I do this because I do want to help and in some cases I am flattered someone asked me for help. However, most of the commitments I make are interesting but not critical to my focus and mission. Yes, they usually make me feel good, but at the end I usually feel they werent the best use of my time which, of course, causes more stress. The magic formula is to just say NO. This is difficult. But at the end of the day, you need to feel like you have used your time well, without guilt. If saying no flat out is difficult, you could say something like, I would love to but cant. Have you thought about asking Betty Sue? She might be a great resource. Excuses I make excuses to justify how I spend my time on frivolous projects or taking too much time to do things. But I know the truth. I wasted my time and unless I put a mechanism in place, Ill do it again. Gain Control and Allocate Your Time Wisely Be Realistic If your to-do list is 100 items long, you will never get through it. Be real. If you regularly cant get through all the items on your to-do list, either you have too many or the action item is too big. Chunk down big to-dos into smaller pieces. Work in Small Increments at a Time Set a timer and work in 45-60 minute intervals. Chose the task you want to conquer and go! This is supposed to keep you focused. Reward yourself with a 5-10 minute break and repeat! Have you heard of the Pomodoro Technique? Use a Calendar Use blocks of time on your calendar for every to-do item. If you dont block it off, guess what? Other emergencies crop up and take your time and at the end of the day you often wonderwhere did the day go! Structure Your Week Tame the Email Beast The biggest time-waster is email. There is absolutely no reason you need to check it all the time. Experts advise checking it twice a day. And set a timer, I might add. Give yourself a specific amount of time to sift through your inbox. Using your phone to check email is just as dangerous. Consider turning off email on your phone during times you need to focus.

Self Improvement 101...who teaches this
Self Improvement 101...who teaches this There are thousands of self improvement/self help books on the shelves of every bookstore in the country. (Who knows, this whole concept of buying a book in a store may change one day). The topics range from communication differences, managing emotions, financial health, new age wellness. Do people really read these books or do they buy them and let them sit. It has to make you wonder, doesnt it? Over in England, they are going to be teaching skills in job search, personal financial management, a form of home economics and basic survival skills to children. These children are from families with a long-running history of being on the dole. The hope is that by teaching them some of these life skills they will break the chain and become working contributors. Ive been scratching my head for years now wondering why our schools dont teach self improvement classes. Anger management, communication, etiquette, etc are typically things that have been taught in the home, however, what if that isnt happening consistently? The most consistent aspect of a childs life is school. I can still remember one math class in Junior High included check writing and balancing the checkbook. This was a helpful thing to know back then. Obviously with the budget issues, these extra curricular topics cant be addressed as stand alone classes, but can it happen as part of a history discussion or social studies current event topic? The mental and physical health of our youth depends on the development of these life skills. Someone prove me wrong, let me know that I am delusional.
